Personal Support Worker

Position Summary:

We are seeking compassionate and reliable Personal Support Workers (PSWs) /Health Care Aides (HCAs) to join our growing team. In this rewarding role, you will provide hands-on, person-centered care to seniors in their homes, helping them thrive with daily support and engaging activities. If you have a passion for nurturing others and a creative spirit, you'll find fulfillment in creating personalized moments of joy and connection.

Summary of Qualifications:

  • Valid Health Care Aide (HCA) certificate from an Alberta-approved program using the 2019 provincial curriculum, with successful completion of the provincial exam or equivalent training and experience.

  • Active registration in the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. 

  • Valid Class 5 driver's license with access to a reliable vehicle and clean driver's abstract (vehicle insurance required). 

  • Current CPR/First Aid certification (Basic Life Support level preferred). 

  • Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, completed within the last 6 months. 

  • Proof of immunizations, including up-to-date TB testing and COVID-19 vaccination as per Alberta Health guidelines. 

  • Ability to lift up to 25 kg and assist with client transfers (physical demands assessment may be required). 

  • Strong command of English (verbal and written); additional languages (e.g., Tagalog, Punjabi) are assets for our diverse clientele.

Recreation Therapist

Position Summary

The Recreation Therapy Aide at Aruga Home Care works in collaboration with the Recreation Therapist and the Care and Creative Director to support the delivery of arts-based recreation programs that emphasize creativity, meaningful engagement, and relationship building.

 

This role assists in developing or discovering innovative creative programs for Aruga clients and participates in monthly or as-needed collaborative planning, implementation, and evaluation with staff members to enhance program effectiveness. The position aids in creating programs that improve the quality of care and life for residents, fostering connections through creative arts and compassionate care.

 

By aligning with Aruga’s mission, vision, and pillars, the Recreation Therapy Aide helps residents experience joy, self-expression, and a sense of community.

Summary of Qualifications

(Referenced from Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA) Competency Profile, Canadian Therapeutic Recreation Association (CTRA) Standards of Practice, Alberta Health Services (AHS) job postings, and ALIS occupation profile):

  • Completion of a bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation Therapy, or Recreation and Leisure Studies.

  • Active or eligible membership with the Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA).

  • Certification as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) through the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) is preferred.

  • Demonstrated competencies in the APIE-D process (Assessment, Planning, Implementation, Evaluation, Documentation), including client-centered assessment, evidence-informed intervention planning, program delivery, outcome evaluation, and ethical documentation.

  • Proficiency in interprofessional collaboration, risk management, ethical practice, and commitment to client well-being, with skills in creativity, problem-solving, leadership, and cultural responsiveness.

  • Minimum 1-3 years of experience in therapeutic recreation, preferably in adult care or mental health settings, with knowledge of therapeutic modalities and crisis management.

  • Additional certifications such as CPR, First Aid, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI), and a valid driver's license may be required.

  • Completion of a diploma in Recreation Therapy or Therapeutic Recreation.

  • Active or eligible membership with the Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA) or equivalent professional association.

  • Demonstrated competencies in program implementation, observation and reporting, client support, ethical practice, and interprofessional collaboration under the supervision of a Recreation Therapist.

  • Skills in creativity, communication, risk management, and commitment to client well-being, with an emphasis on supporting evidence-informed interventions.

  • Experience in care settings with seniors or individuals with disabilities is preferred.

  • Additional certifications such as CPR, First Aid, and a valid driver's license may be required.
